Engineered Oak Flooring Information
Oak flooring is one of the most traditional and luxurious flooring choices that you could buy for your home. For hundreds of years, the grandiose halls and houses of the United Kingdom have been treated to the beauty and splendour of oak flooring. Thankfully, since wooden flooring has made a comeback over the past few decades, natural flooring of any type has made a fantastic comeback. Often used to symbolise strength and beauty, the oak tree really is one of the most popular trees in the world and it is only apt that its produce is so loved around the world.
Besides its undeniable beauty, oak is also popular because of its hardiness and firm resistance to wear and traffic. With a Janka rating of 1290, oak is considered the benchmark rating of hardiness. This makes the material excellent for floors in homes and businesses that expect high and concentrated levels of traffic throughout its lifetime.
What most people aren't aware of, is that if you or someone in your family suffers from allergies, oak flooring actually makes a wonderful solution to tackling the problem of dust, pollen and other allergenic's. As the surface of any wooden floor is smooth and polished, this means that it is much easier to clean your floor. Quite often a quick sweep every day and a mop every now and again will be enough to keep your oak floor spotless for days to come. Of course, like any wooden floor, to maintain it for years to come, a good wax at least once a year is enough to keep it beautifully happy for the duration of its lifetime.
As you may know, there is a wide range of exciting oak floors out there in the world, from the Engineered Click Coffee to the Click Rustic Oak floor. Of course, when most people see the word 'engineered' the first thing words to come to their lips are 'what is engineered flooring?'
What is Engineered Oak Flooring
Unlike solid wood flooring, which compromises of a single plank of wood, engineered flooring consists of multiple layers of plywood that are fused together under extremely high pressure and are topped off with the flooring material of your choice (for example Rustic Oak). As the manufacturing process is highly extensive, this means that quite often, engineered flooring is as reliable as solid wood flooring. Much of this is thanks to the specially designed 'click' system that is carved within the sides of all the engineered boards, ensuring you reliable and stable flooring that will last decades.
Advantages of Engineered Oak Wood Flooring
Of course, there are also many advantages of engineered oak flooring. Not only is engineered flooring highly reliable, but thanks to the many layers of plywood which sit beneath your chosen material, the floor is able to contract and expand accordingly to differing moisture and temperature levels. This makes engineered oak flooring a brilliant choice for basements and bathrooms, where you would expect to find high levels of humidity.
Also, you will be happy to know that the quality of engineered wood is so high that the vast majority of people cannot tell the difference between a solid oak flooring and an engineered one.
As under-floor heating is becoming more and more popular within the United Kingdom, the great news is that engineered oak flooring works great for anyone wanting to have it install in their home. Although there are materials required for this process, such as wood heat flow underlay, all you need to help you install under floor heating can be bought from our accessories page.
