Parquet Flooring Information

Parquet flooring can fit the style of any home and does not dictate the décor of the room whilst still retaining the natural beauty of the wood that it is made from. The three dimensional pattern of the herringbone design is the most popular of all parquet floors and is a splendid design in rooms of any size and can be enjoyed for years to come. Like other floors, Parquet flooring can be easily cleaned and attracts little dust and allergenic particles. Along with this, the floor offers great sustainability and is just as durable as any other floor. With great quality materials to choose from, including traditional oak and the exotic Jatoba wood, there really is no reason why Parquet flooring will not suit the style of any home or commercial property.

Originating from Versailles, France, Parquet flooring (otherwise known as Parquet de Versailles) has been popular for hundreds of years. Great and immensely beautiful examples of parquetry can still be found in the Winter Palace, St Petersburg, where during the seventeenth century, the majority of its rooms and halls were furnished in parquet.

Parquetry did not arrive in England until the middle of the seventeenth century when Queen Henrietta of France (daughter of King Henry IV of France), ordered a major redecoration of her official residence, then known as Denmark House.

Although the popularity of Parquet floors declined during the middle of the 20th century, during the 1980s’, a renewed interest for the floor was born. Thanks to modern manufacturing techniques and better durability of wood, the elegance of Parquet flooring can now be enjoyed by everyone and has since become immensely popular in India and the Far East.
